Present Centred Therapy focuses upon living in the present moment – in the "now". It also focuses upon recognising and working with the interconnectedness of all aspects of our lives.
And it is practiced in an atmosphere that emphasises collaboration, gentleness, friendliness, acceptance and compassion.
My way of working is first and foremost about helping people live more in the present moment.
Working with people on issues that matter to them, we begin with training and managing what is variously called attention, awareness, presence or mindfulness.
Being present means learning to attend to all of our sense perceptions and to the activity of our minds. We learn to be more present to all the thoughts and feelings that underly our patterns of social behaviour. And we learn especially to be more aware of bodily sensations and how our bodies hold and express our emotions. Then we can learn how to work constructively with this.
Working in a present-centred way involves working holistically with the interconnectedness, the inter-relationships of all aspects of our lives. Accordingly I like to pay attention to the basics of everyday life including such things as diet, exercise, sleep, social connection – the regulation and quality of these things helps to form the foundations of a stable and satisfying life.
And finally it is an approach that recognises the need for gentleness, for forgiveness, for acceptance and for compassion.
When we truly understand ourselves and others we can begin to forgive and accept. We can begin to forgive and accept others, and just as importantly we can begin to forgive and accept ourselves.
